ReplyDeleteThis is actually pretty common. Often it was a patron or official who made the artist's life miserable. Dante's Divine Comedy is like a giant word painting dealing with people who were supposed to be important church members but who were wicked in reality, his way of giving them what they deserved and presenting their true natures.
