One thing Baptists are lacking in is spiritual warfare. On thing charismatics go overboard in is the same subject. I prefer to stand in the middle even though I am an independent baptist. I can learn from anyone though.
Out of all the pieces of armor 5 are for defense. Prayer can be for defense also. Prayer can be an offensive weapon. also. It has two sides. As does the sword as shown in this verse: Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And in this one: Psa_149:6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand; And finally this one: Rev_1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
So we conclude that the sword in Ephesians 6 can be used as a defensive weapon and an offensive weapon.
Most Christians (and I admit that often I neglect to use the sword in the correct manner and allow things to chop me down that would not if I would take hold of my weapons and especially the sword and stand and fight like this person: Jer_48:10 Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood.
Now how did jesus Christ deal with warfare and satanic temptation from others or straight at him as an arrow: WE know this , but if you are like me you just feel stupid speaking out loud like a nut so we allow ourselves to fall victim even if we know the Devil's devices'
Mat_4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Mat_4:6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Mat_4:7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
Mat_4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Luk_4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
Luk_4:8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Mat_16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
Our Kingdom is a spiritual kingdom: Hence: Rom_14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
As Ephesians states we are wrestling spiritually against wicked powers:
1Co_4:20 For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power
This was my introduction, now onto the meat of the matter. First off I do not want to say that I agree with everything in this book I am going to recommend. Since any book but Bible is man written so is fallible. But I love this book since it lays out sins that bring on stronghold and shows you how to pray for them out loud using the sword of the Spirit in defense and also as an offensive weapon. My husband has liked the book so well he is using it in teaching the boys at the boys home he works and ministers at.
The book using scripture covers every strong man mention in the bible. Starting with spirit of Divination and ending at spirit of death, it covers lying spirit, seducing Spirits. Spirit of fear, spirit of bondage, seducing spirits, Spirit of antichrist. I6 spirits in all. I will link here to Amazon and you can check out table of contents first page, back cover, a sample page, etc. I bought the book at a christian book store and not amazon.
Since I have depression, anxiety connected to bipolar, I suffer a lot with :
- Spirit of Heaviness
- Spirit of Infirmity
- Spirit of Bondage and
- Spirit of Fear
Now I am not saying that every connection to my bipolar and its fall out is caused from the devil ( That is a charismatic problem sometimes) I am saying that my physical illness moves over into my spiritual life and the devil does do what he can to mess with it and then it needs to be fought on that level. He will drive what physical affliction I have over the top and cause me to go into unbelief, fear, lies, etc.
I would deal with it ( and admit , I do not do this myself at times) First spiritually as the book says and prayer making sure I had on the armor above. If after you do this and find no relief, I would think it was in the physical realm and still need prayer for God's comfort and help through it.
This is not only for those that have a mental illness, but this book can help anyone that have given to different sins and need deliverance. Say the Familiar Spirit: Under this chaper you see a tree with the basic ways you gain the stronghold and how the devil's clutches may wrap you up until you end up in Necromancy at the top of the tree with witchcraft. (This is not sins or stronghold I have ever struggled with) all of us are bent to certain sinful behaviors of which Satan uses to get his foothold in us.
Anyway the book shows the sins under each chapter in tree form which is user easy to grab and see the need. It describes in easy to read form with verses the manner we get caught up in each spiritual wickedness and it ends with how to pray for deliverance. I have seen this work on others by praying out loud when I saw certain sin behaviors (especially in my kids)
So in conclusion I recommend this book for serious warfare to be able to stand. (especially if you struggle as I do in victory.)
